About “Defining Diversity, Creating Community”
In 2010, the Powell River Diversity Initiative produced a documentary film with input from a broad spectrum of community partners, and funding from the BC & federal governments. Curricula was then designed and developed with and for educational institutions, the Diversity Outreach Toolkit was created, and access to the film was increased via the internet, film festivals, and group screenings.
Project Goals:
- Increase awareness among community members of the contributions and needs of newcomers
- Increase the capacity of the local community to welcome and support newcomers
- Bring widespread exposure of the film’s messages to diverse audiences
- Create opportunities for education, awareness, and action
"Defining Diversity, Creating Community" has been accepted to the following film festivals:
